A simple update to our project plan
For Virginia and Gerry. In plain language, refocusing the rest of the engagement on what matters most for LMS, at no extra cost.
The short version
Over the past few weeks we got to know how Lane Moving & Storage really works, by sitting down with your department heads and studying the day-to-day. We learned that the most valuable thing we can do for the business is a little different from part of our original plan. We would like your permission to adjust where we focus for the rest of the project. It will not cost you anything more, the work already done stays valuable, and you will get help with the things that matter most right now. If you are happy with it, please approve at the bottom.
What we found
A price quote takes about two days, because it is put together by hand. Some customers go elsewhere while they wait.
The quoting process leans on a few specialists and manual steps, so the business is exposed whenever someone is away or unwell.
The Asian Tigers head office now requires every member office to connect its computer system to theirs, and that deadline has already passed.
A long-serving team member retires at the end of the year, and important financial records sit on a single computer.
The monthly tonnage report takes many hours of hand-work that a computer could do.
What we would pause
The business does not need more enquiries right now, it needs to handle the ones it already gets, faster. So we would pause:

Paused, not cancelled, both can resume later. The work already done on them is kept.
What we would focus on instead
- 1Get LMS properly connected to the Asian Tigers head office system, the way they now require.
- 2Choose the right modern moving-software system for LMS, and lay out a clear plan to move onto it.
- 3Build a simple tool that turns a two-day price quote into a same-day one, so the business is not stuck when one person is away.
- 4Protect the financial records and set things up cleanly before the year-end retirement.
What it costs you
Nothing changes.The fee stays exactly the same and the total is unchanged. We are simply pointing the same effort at the most valuable work. The way we measure the project’s success will be updated to match this new focus, so it stays fair to everyone.
What comes after this project
The bigger task, actually switching the whole company over to the new moving system, is a larger job that would be its own next stage, once this groundwork is done. This project lays a strong, clean foundation for all the helpful technology that comes after it.
